The Westland Lysander is a British liaison and special duties aircraft that first flew in 1936. The “Lizzie” was used before and during WWII primarily by the Royal Air Force. Due to its short field takeoff and landing characteristics, a number of Lysanders were used for inserting and extracting clandestine agents into occupied Europe. These missions were flown at night to avoid detection and the aircraft landed on unimproved fields that were lit by torches.
These Air Drops were cut from an original 1942 dated Westland Lysander Mk.III oil tank. This oil tank was painted silver with black and white stenciling. Most Air Drops are silver with some featuring portion of the black and white stencil.
For a limited time, all Lysander Air Drops come in our acrylic cards (pictured above).
Fulfillment is random. There are no returns on Air Drops.
